This month we want to feature our third partner, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH). HDGH is based out of Windsor, Ontario. We worked with the team from the Regional Children’s Centre, which offers crisis services, walk in counselling, outpatient counselling and therapy, assessment and consultation, day treatment, residential treatment and in home treatment. The Centre also runs a youth council, Youth in Partnership (YiP). This group is comprised of youth and adult allies who aim to engage youth involved in mental health services. The main goals of YiP are as follows:
- Supporting youth in having a voice to impact local mental health services
- Promoting good mental health and the services that support youth
- Reducing the stigma regarding mental health
The support of HDGH was and continues to be, invaluable. As we speak the HDGH team is busy supporting the youth while they plan their launch event that is scheduled to take place in the fall. While they are planning the event the mindyourmind team is working away at the Border Town journal, which will be complete in time for their launch.
Our work in Squamish has wrapped up. This is a big milestone as Squamish was our first community involved with the Canada Service Corps project. We want to send a final THANK YOU to everyone from the Squamish community that has supported this project along the way.
As we wrapped up in the West coast, we started a new journey way up north. We went to Arviat, Nunavut at the end of June. We worked with Mental Health Outreach Workers from the Department of Health as well as eleven local youth to gather content for a culturally specific mental health journal. What an amazing experience that was for our team.
As of now we have visited four communities out of five for the Canada Service Corps project. We have been loving meeting new young people, and service providers across our great Country in our adventures. It’s an exciting time for us here at mindyourmind, be sure to stay tuned for updates.
