CSC Adventures: July Update

Earlier this year mindyourmind was selected as one of the partners for the federal government’s Canada Service Corps initiative alongside 4H Canada, Apathy is Boring, Boys & Girls Club of Canada, Canadian Wildlife Federation, Chantiers jeunesse, Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Katimavik, OceanWise and YMCA. We will be going to five different communities in Canada to co-create mental health resources with youth, and what we create will be customized to each city. Our first community was Squamish, British Columbia.

Since things tend to slow down in the summer months, we decided to take a bit of a break from webinars for the month of July. Each group member had something to work on during the break. We met up again during the last week of July to review our progress and plan next steps.

Everyone in our group worked incredibly hard! We now have a more detailed plan for our event in the fall; a guest list and we have a social media strategy. We also began to work on a grant that would provide us with funds to carry out the event and implement some longer term mental health projects in the community.

Halfway through the month we learned that the government will be hosting a #LeadersToday Youth Summit at the end of August and they invited us to bring one of the group members with us. The purpose of the summit is to get the opinions of youth regarding youth service initiatives. This feedback will be used to shape the national program expected to start sometime next year.
