August was an interesting month for our team; we wrapped up our youthexperts Online group and hosted our first online Design Lab! It was bittersweet to wrap up our final few meetings that included a reunion at the end of the month. Our final few individual sessions were extra special to host; you MUST stay tuned for what’s to come. This group of young people are making amazing impacts in their local communities; we can’t wait to share more from them directly. Our team had another first, as has been the case during this pandemic; firsts! We adjusted the format of our in person Design Lab to an online format! We put the call out on our socials and had a group of wonderful young people apply; including one of our youth alumni! Typically in the past, an in-person Design Lab would be a 2.5 day intensive workshop to do the bulk of the development. Shifting online, required us to think creatively about how we could still co-create mental health resources. So we scheduled four afternoons of Zoom fun, and flexed our usual process to the online world. We are now in the development phase, and connect with these young adults through online channels to touch base.
This group of young women wanted to create resources that provide young people the skills to navigate challenges in life while still working towards your goals; they decided on making both a game and a book. We will have more to share on these tools next month; it’s an exciting time for our team as we bring these tools to life.
