We wanted to change things up this time around and highlight the work of one of our amazing partners! Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) in Squamish, British Columbia, has been around since 1978 and provides vital services for the residents of the Sea-to-Sky Corridor. They help children, youth, adults and seniors with just about anything and everything. Check out this link for a full listing of services. We worked with the Squamish Youth Resource Centre, a program of SSCS. They have an awesome centre with fun activities going on throughout the week. Check them out here.
The SSCS staff have been instrumental in helping us get the Squamish MIND project off the ground! They have been supporting the youth with the promotional phase of the project. Here is an article about their upcoming promotional event. In addition to planning the event the youth have applied and received $5000, from #RisingYouth, in order to run their event!
The mindyourmind team has been able to secure funding to do a reprint of the Anchor book, created by the Halifax group. This is very exciting as the book has been very popular and copies were distributed very quickly! To celebrate the success of the Halifax project we are planning to have a wrap up webinar shortly, this will be an opportunity for the team members to reflect on their success and learn about future opportunities.
In Windsor news, the youth have chosen roles for development of the project, and planning meetings are underway to discuss promotion! They are also considering applying for a #RisingYouth grant. Stay tuned for more details.
In other news, we were able to send five youth participants, two from Halifax and three from Windsor, to the Canada Youth Summit recently. The youth joined three hundred other young people from across Canada to discuss issues that were important to them. They also got the chance to hear Justin Trudeau speak and introduce Canada’s Youth Policy.
As always there are more exciting updates coming your way so stay tuned!
